Two research projects presented at ISMAR 2024

The 23rd IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR), a premier conference in the AR and VR fields, was held in Seattle, USA, from October 21 to 25, 2024. Our laboratory presented two research projects at this conference. The oral presentation by Mr. Guanghan Zhao (Tohoku University) showcased collaborative research conducted by Tohoku University, Augusta University, Osaka University and our laboratory. Additionally, a poster presentation on the research of our alumnus, Mr. Shinohara, highlighted joint work between our laboratory and OMRON SINIC X.

Professor Kiyokawa organized and moderated a panel titled “xR is Dead, Long Live XR!”, which aimed to revisit and clarify the definitions and historical development of terms such as VR, AR, MR, xR, and XR. Furthermore, as one of the organizers, he contributed to the MASK (Mobile Analytics from Situated Knowledge) workshop, facilitating discussions on seamlessly incorporating AI and situated knowledge to create a unified space for data and analytics in real-world environments.
