From February 26 to 28, 2025, the NAIST Spring Seminar was held, and our laboratory welcomed 12 seminar participants from various universities and technical colleges across Japan, from Tokyo to Okinawa.
Four participants joined the theme “Recognizing User States by Reading Biometric Signals”, where they worked on developing a system that recognizes hand gestures in rock-paper-scissors using electromyography (EMG) sensors. Through this, they learned about biometric signal processing and machine learning algorithms.
Six participants took part in the theme “Implementing and Experiencing Pseudo-Haptics”, where they developed various systems using Unity that leveraged the principle of “pseudo-haptics,” making objects feel heavier when they move more slowly than the cursor.
Two participants joined the theme “Creating AR Applications on Smartphones”, where they used AR Foundation to develop AR systems that applied various textures to faces and displayed dancing avatars in real-world spaces.
We hope that the knowledge and skills gained in this seminar will be useful for their future activities!
